ATO Impersonation Scams on the Rise
The ATO has warned taxpayers to be alert to scammers using a new tactic called “spoofing”. This involves scammers mimicking a legitimate ATO phone number and domain to call or send SMS messages and emails to taxpayers. The ATO warns Australians that these scammers intend to steal not only your money, but also your identity. The ATO will never send emails or SMSs with links asking you to give your personal information or pay a fee to receive a refund, or threaten you with jail. Contact us today if you may have fallen victim to an ATO scam or need urgent advice.
